Appliance Control Board Repair in Lubbock, TX
Did your board let the magic smoke out? That's repair tech talk for a blown component -- and yes, we can usually fix that.

When a control board fails, most repair companies do one thing -- order a new one. That works when the board is available and affordable. But when it's discontinued, backordered, or $400+, you've got a problem. At Lubbock Appliance Repair, we do something most shops can't -- we repair the board itself. Component-level diagnosis and repair, done on-site when possible, backed by a 1-year warranty.
What We Repair
We do component-level board repairs -- not just board swaps. If the problem is a:
- Bad trace
- Failed relay
- Blown solder joint
- Bad capacitor
- Failed resistor
- Pressure transducer
- Visibly blown MOSFET
...we can fix it. Our owner has a mechanical engineering degree from Texas Tech and has been doing board-level repairs for years -- from basic relay swaps to pressure transducer replacements on modern washer platforms.
What Boards We Work On
- Control boards (main electronic control, machine control) -- the most common board we repair
- Inverter boards (variable-speed compressor and motor control)
- Power supply boards
- Display boards -- especially older Whirlpool and Maytag wall ovens with display issues
We repair boards on most appliance types -- refrigerators, washers, dryers, ovens and ranges, dishwashers, microwaves, and more.
How It Works
The process depends on who's on the service call and what the board needs.
If the owner (Michael) is on the service call
Michael can often repair the board on-site during the same visit if he has the needed components on the van. There's a local supply house right here in Lubbock that stocks relays and common electronic components -- if he doesn't have it on hand, he calls them first. Most on-site board repairs are completed the same day.
If another technician is on the call
The technician diagnoses the board as the problem, pulls it, and brings it back to Michael. Michael does the repair -- usually by the next business day -- and the technician returns to reinstall it. Two trips, but the board gets fixed right. Our technician Alec can also handle some minor board repairs on-site -- like reflowing a bad solder joint -- so not every board issue has to come back to the shop.
If the board needs a professional rebuild
When the repair is beyond what we can do in-house, or when the customer prefers a factory-certified rebuild, we send the board out to CoreCentric Solutions or FixYourBoard.com. You choose the shipping speed: ground (standard, included in the price), 2nd day air, or overnight -- you pay the upgrade if you want it faster. CoreCentric's turnaround is typically 1-2 business days once they receive the board. We handle all the shipping, tracking, and coordination so you don't have to deal with any of it.
When Does Board Repair Make Sense?
- The board is discontinued. You can't buy a new one at any price. Board repair or a professional rebuild is the only option short of replacing the entire appliance.
- The board is expensive. New boards run $300-$500+ for many models. Component-level repair saves real money.
- The board is backordered. Weeks or months to get a new one. On-site repair can fix it today.
- You want to try repair first. No risk -- if our repair doesn't fix the problem, you don't pay for it.
Our Board Repair Guarantee
If we repair the board and it doesn't fix the problem -- you don't pay for the board repair. We'll requote the job for a replacement board or a send-out to CoreCentric or FixYourBoard, and apply what you already paid toward the new quote.
1-year warranty on all board repairs we complete. If the board fails again within a year and we can't fix it a second time, we apply what you paid toward the cost of sending it out for a professional rebuild.
This is a no-lose situation for you. Either the repair works and you saved money, or it doesn't and you haven't lost anything.
Board Repair vs. Board Replacement
Appliance control boards range from under $100 to over $800 depending on the brand and appliance type. Board repair can cut that cost significantly -- especially on expensive boards from Samsung, LG, and high-end Whirlpool platforms.
For discontinued boards (NLA -- no longer available), the savings are even bigger. Without board repair, the only option is replacing the entire appliance -- which could mean thousands of dollars instead of a repair bill. Board repair turns a write-off into a fix.
We'll always give you the honest assessment. If a new board is available, reasonably priced, and the better play for your situation -- we'll tell you. Board repair isn't always the answer, and we won't push it when it's not.
A Warning About Buying Parts on eBay
This is a heads-up we wish more people heard before they ordered. When you search a part number on eBay, the results often include listings that don't actually match what you searched for. eBay's search algorithm shows "related" items that look similar but aren't the same part.
Always verify that the part number in the listing title AND description matches exactly what you need. Don't just trust the search results page -- click into the listing and confirm. We see customers waste money on wrong parts regularly, and a wrong board means a delayed repair on top of the wasted money.
If you're thinking about sourcing your own board, call us first at (806) 730-6300. We can tell you if it's the right part and whether repair might be a better option than replacement.
Send-Out Options -- CoreCentric Solutions & FixYourBoard.com
When a board needs more than we can do on-site, we use two professional rebuild services:
CoreCentric Solutions
- Professional board rebuild service used by repair shops nationwide
- 1-2 business day turnaround once they receive the board
- We handle shipping both ways
- Good option for complex multi-layer boards or boards with proprietary components
FixYourBoard.com
- Another reputable board repair and rebuild service
- Similar turnaround time
- We'll recommend whichever service is better suited for your specific board
In both cases, we pull the board, package it, ship it, receive it back, and reinstall it. You don't have to deal with any of that.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does board repair cost?
It depends on the board and what's wrong with it. We diagnose the specific failed component and give you a clear price before doing any work. Board repair generally saves a lot compared to buying a new board -- and if the board is discontinued, it can save you from replacing the entire appliance.
What if the board repair doesn't work?
You don't pay for the repair. We'll requote the job for a replacement board or a send-out rebuild, and apply what you already paid toward the new price.
How long does board repair take?
If our owner is on the service call and has the components, it can be done on-site the same day. If a technician brings the board back to the shop, it's usually repaired by the next business day. Send-outs to CoreCentric typically take 1-2 business days plus shipping time.
Can you repair any board?
We can repair most common failures -- relays, capacitors, resistors, solder joints, traces, and pressure transducers. For more complex issues like surface mount components or proprietary chips, we'll send it to a specialized rebuild service like CoreCentric or FixYourBoard.
Should I buy a board on eBay myself?
Be very careful. eBay search results often include parts that don't match what you searched for. Always verify the part number in the listing title AND description matches exactly. Better yet, call us first at (806) 730-6300 -- we can confirm the right part number and tell you whether repair is a better option.
My board is discontinued -- what are my options?
This is exactly when board repair shines. If a new board isn't available, we can often repair the existing one. If we can't fix it in-house, we'll send it to CoreCentric or FixYourBoard for a professional rebuild. Either way, you have options beyond replacing the whole appliance.
