Common LG Failures
Linear compressor failure on refrigerators. LG refrigerators use a linear compressor design instead of the traditional rotary compressor found in most brands. The linear compressor is more energy-efficient, but it has a documented failure pattern. Symptoms include the fridge clicking on and off repeatedly, running warm, or failing to cool at all. LG extended their compressor warranty to 10 years on many models due to class action pressure. If your LG fridge is within that window, it may qualify for coverage. We can diagnose and advise whether the compressor is the actual issue or if something else is causing the cooling failure.
Washer drum bearing and stator failure. LG front-load washers use a direct-drive motor with a stator and rotor mounted directly to the outer tub. The bearings wear over time, causing loud rumbling or grinding during the spin cycle. The stator hall sensor can also fail, triggering LE error codes. Bearing replacement on LG front-loaders requires pulling the entire tub apart. On units over 8 years old, we often recommend evaluating whether the repair cost justifies the remaining useful life.
Dryer flow sense and thermistor issues. LG dryers frequently show D80, D90, or D95 error codes related to airflow restriction. Sometimes this is a genuine vent blockage, but the flow sense system can also give false readings when the thermistor or the vent sensing circuit malfunctions. We check the vent system first, and if the vent is clear, we diagnose the sensor circuit.
Dishwasher leak and drain problems. LG dishwashers can develop leaks from the door gasket, tub seal, or water inlet valve. The AE or LE error codes indicate a leak detected by the float switch in the base. Drain issues often trace back to a clogged filter or failed drain pump.
Model Notes
LG refrigerator models with known compressor issues include many in the LRMVS, LRFXS, LMXS, and LFXS series. If your LG fridge was manufactured between 2014 and 2020, check your model number against the compressor warranty extension program.
LG washer models with the WT series (top-load, direct drive) can develop tub bearing issues as well, not just front-loaders. The WM series front-loaders from 2015-2019 have higher-than-average bearing failure rates in our experience.

A homeowner called about their 4-year-old LG French door refrigerator that was clicking and running warm. The compressor had failed, but the unit was still within LG's 10-year compressor warranty.
