We work on Bosch appliances regularly — especially dishwashers, which are our most common Bosch service call. For straightforward mechanical and electrical repairs like drain pumps, door latches, heating elements, and control boards that do not require programming, we handle them like any other brand.
However, we want to be upfront about something: we are not a Bosch authorized servicer. We do not have direct access to Bosch tech support, Bosch technical documentation, or Bosch programming tools that some newer Bosch parts and modules require after installation. Some newer Bosch models require manufacturer-specific programming tools or proprietary diagnostic software after a part is installed. If your repair falls into that category, we will tell you upfront rather than waste your time and money. We would rather send you to someone who has the right tools than take your money and leave you with a half-finished repair.
We service the full Bosch appliance range including Bosch 300 Series, Bosch 500 Series, Bosch 800 Series, and Bosch Benchmark models. We also work on Thermador and Gaggenau appliances — both are owned by BSH (the same parent company as Bosch), and the same limitations apply regarding programming tools on newer models.
Common Bosch Failures
Dishwasher drain pump failure. This is by far our most common Bosch call. Bosch dishwashers are known for their quiet operation and cleaning performance, but the drain pump is a wear item that fails after years of use. Symptoms include standing water in the bottom of the tub, an E24 or E25 error code, or the dishwasher stopping mid-cycle. We replace Bosch drain pumps regularly and carry them as a common service part.
Dishwasher door latch and strike issues. The Bosch dishwasher door latch mechanism can wear over time, preventing the door from closing securely. If the door latch switch does not engage, the dishwasher will not start. Some models also develop issues with the door strike plate that the latch connects to. This is a straightforward mechanical repair.
Dishwasher control board problems. Bosch dishwashers use electronic control boards to manage wash cycles, water temperature, and drain functions. On older models, the control board can fail from moisture exposure or power surges. Symptoms include the dishwasher not responding to button presses, lights flashing in unusual patterns, or the unit running partial cycles. Most Bosch control boards we replace do not require programming — but on some newer 800 Series and Benchmark models, the replacement board may need to be coded to the machine.
Dishwasher heating element and flow meter issues. The heating element in Bosch dishwashers heats the water during the wash and dry cycles. If it fails, dishes come out cold and wet. The flow meter monitors water intake volume and can cause E3, E9, or E15 errors when it malfunctions.
Washer and dryer issues. Bosch compact washers and dryers (the 24-inch stackable units common in condos and smaller homes) can develop drum bearing wear, drain pump failures, and control board issues similar to other brands. These compact units require specific parts and access can be tight. We work on them but always verify parts availability before scheduling since some Bosch laundry parts have longer lead times.
Model Notes
Bosch 300 Series dishwashers are the most service-friendly in the lineup. They use fewer electronic features and most repairs are straightforward parts swaps. The 500 Series adds features like AutoAir and a third rack but remains reasonably serviceable. The 800 Series and Benchmark models have CrystalDry technology, advanced sensor arrays, and electronic components that may require BSH programming tools for certain repairs.
Thermador is owned by BSH — the same parent company as Bosch. Thermador ranges, cooktops, refrigerators, and dishwashers share some BSH platform components. We can handle many Thermador repairs, but some newer Thermador models require the same BSH-specific programming tools and diagnostic software that limit our work on high-end Bosch units. Same honest policy applies — if we cannot complete the repair properly, we will tell you.
Gaggenau is also part of the BSH family. These are ultra-premium appliances with very limited distribution. The same programming and tooling limitations apply. We can diagnose Gaggenau appliances and handle basic mechanical repairs, but specialized electronic repairs may require a BSH-authorized servicer.
Field Examples
A homeowner called about their Bosch 500 Series dishwasher showing an E24 error and standing water in the bottom. We found the drain pump impeller had cracked and was no longer moving water. Replaced the drain pump assembly and the dishwasher drained and ran normally. Total repair time was about 45 minutes.
We diagnosed a Bosch 800 Series dishwasher that would not start — no lights, no response to any buttons. The main control board had failed from a power surge. We replaced the board, and in this case the replacement did not require programming since it was a direct swap on this particular model revision. The dishwasher was back in service the same day.
Repair vs Replace
Bosch appliances are premium products with premium price tags. A Bosch 800 Series dishwasher runs $1,200-1,600 new. A Bosch Benchmark model is even more. That means repairs are often justified well into the appliance's life — spending $300-400 on a 6-year-old Bosch dishwasher makes financial sense.
The complicating factor is parts availability. Some Bosch parts take longer to source than domestic brands like Whirlpool or GE. And if the repair requires BSH programming tools we do not have, the authorized service route may cost more and take longer to schedule. We will lay out all the options honestly so you can decide what makes sense for your situation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you reprogram Bosch parts after installation?
Not all of them. Some newer Bosch control boards and modules require BSH proprietary programming tools that are only available to authorized BSH servicers. If your repair requires programming, we will let you know during diagnosis so you can decide how to proceed.
Should I repair my Bosch or replace it?
Bosch appliances are well-built and expensive to replace. Most repairs are economically justified for the first 8-10 years. The factors we consider are repair cost versus replacement cost, the specific failure, and whether the repair requires tools or programming we can provide. We will give you an honest assessment.
Do you work on Thermador appliances?
Yes, with the same honest limitations as Bosch. Thermador is owned by BSH (same parent company). We can handle many Thermador repairs, but some newer models require BSH-specific programming tools. We will tell you upfront if your repair falls into that category.
What is the most common Bosch repair?
Dishwasher drain pump replacement, by a wide margin. Bosch makes excellent dishwashers, but the drain pump is a wear item that eventually fails on any model. We carry Bosch drain pumps as a common service part.
Are Bosch parts expensive?
Bosch parts are moderately to significantly more expensive than domestic brands. Some parts also have longer lead times to source. We always confirm parts pricing and availability before recommending a repair so you know the full cost upfront.
